Kick-off Circular Aromatics
Powerful start for project to convert mixed plastic waste and biomass, funded by CPNL.
On May 14, Circular Plastics NL joined the festive launch of the Circular Aromatics project at the Bilderberg Grand Hotel Wientjes in Zwolle.
This €23 million project brings together leading companies, universities, and research institutions to scale up an innovative chemical recycling technology: Integrated Cascading Catalytic Pyrolysis (ICCP). Developed by BioBTX, ICCP enables the conversion of mixed plastic waste and biomass into valuable circular chemical building blocks like benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX), as well as olefin and paraffin-rich streams.
With a €10 million subsidy contribution from CPNL to support the scale-up of this technology, the project offers a sustainable alternative for currently hard-to-recycle waste streams. It contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions, minimizing waste incineration, and strengthening the circular economy.
Congratulations to the committed consortium partners: BioBTX, Ketjen Corporation, NTCP, ExxonMobil, Teijin Aramid, University of Twente, University of Groningen, DPI, ISPT, CPI.
